This is racist, isn't it? I'm uncomfortable with how happily servile Abdul is, but Judi Dench is great as the Queen, as always. Anyway, I think that this, coupled with Mrs. Brown and Victoria the TV show, is a chronicle of how horny Queen Victoria is lol

I liked a lot of the movie, but was really uncomfortable through a lot of it, too. If it wasn't for Judi, I'm not sure how well I'd have been able to watch it. I mean, I know that probably they had to act servile to survive imperialism, especially being in the country, but...yeah.

I mean, I can appreciate how the other Indian servant was grumpy all the time, it showed that he wasn't just there for the Queen. That at certain points in the movie (away from the cameras), he was probably homesick and wanted to go home and pissed off at Abdul for making them stay in England. Or that Abdul was a little snarky about how the Queen treats him, like a pet (because he was) -- it was like it was his lifelong dream to serve the Queen ugh. No wonder Bertie was livid (aside from the inherent racism, that is).
