Cinderella/Frozen Fever
Mar. 12th, 2015 02:48 pmFrozen Fever was okay. The song wasn't great and I think that a short doesn't do the Frozen crew justice. Though I do love the two cameos near the end. Also, I used to remember Kristoff as sandy blond but it looks like they went full-on Malibu Ken on him this time.
I liked Cinderella. I think it's always hard to remake a cartoon fairy tale into a live-action feature but I think they did well, even without the songs. Lily James was surprising as the lead (and that's good, since I disliked her on Downton Abbey) and she gave it the right amount of starry-eyed wonder and whimsy. I wasn't sold on a scruff-free Richard Madden as the Prince but he acquitted himself -- especially when he smiles. Damn, that man is attractive when he smiles. But I think the best things in this movie were Cate Blanchett chewing up the scenery in lovely gowns which is this side of Vivienne Westwood, and Helena Bonham-Carter doing her bibbidi-bobbidi-best.
p.s. Derek Jacobi was perfect as the king -- probably the one who looked the most like his cartoon counterpart.
